Hiking El Morado Natural Monument


Enjoy one of the most attractive hiking trails close to Santiago of Chile.

This nature reserve is only one hour from downtown Santiago. It is currently managed by Conaf and has more than 3,000 hectares of green and natural areas. Within the reserve you can go hiking, climbing, horseback riding and camping.
The route is of medium intensity, the road is usually marked, when walking you can see impressive mountains of more than 16.400 ft high, birds such as the magnificent Andean condor and at the end of the path you can see a beautiful glacial lagoon, due to the proximity with the San Francisco glacier.

This mountain tour is perfect to discover and enjoy the wonderful geography, flora, fauna and colors of the Andes mountain range in Santiago.

Your tour starts with early morning pickup from your hotel in the Santiago area. From there, you will head to El Morado Natural Monument National Park, which is located 93 kms (57 miles) from Santiago.

The starting point of the hike is in Baños Morales, a mountain village at 1,900 meters of altitude (6,200 ft). The trail leads to the beautiful San Francisco Glacier lookout at 2,500 meters (8,200 ft) and the Morales Glacier lagoon. During the hike we will have a refreshing stop at “Aguas de Panimávida”, iron-rich carbonated waters that directly spills out from the earth.

Then, enjoy typical food in the mountains and then hike back for about 5 miles (4 kms) to the starting point. Connect with nature and enjoy this park on a great day trip.

Around 15:00 horas, we will begin our return to Santiago.

The main attractions are: San Francisco Glacier view point, Morales lagoon, The Morado Mountain and typical flora and fauna.

Difficulty: Medium. This tour is recommended for people in good physical shape.

Activity: 5 hours, round-trip hike 10 km.

Duration: 10 hours total
